Vico Magistretti, archivio in viaggio

bambini/ragazzi=plastica

salone del mobile, the demand and supply, ...

In these days you have heard about the Salone del Mobile
in Milano. Although quickly
I was able to visit a couple of
pavilionsFor those is not familiar pictures give an idea how big is the exhibition complex in Rho (Rho Fiera) and make
understandable why it is impossible to see everything. Before to go it was essential to make a selection of exhibitors to visit.

I found a couple of really interesting stand, particularly those of carpets manufactured with natural materials, but I was very disappointed by othersOverall, many furniture, more or less, resemble one each other because reflect market trends and then because there was many, many plastics. Too much!
But what bothers me most is a material that simulates another. Apparently wooden but really plastic
furniture.
This is the actual trend.
Obviously the Salone is just the tip of the iceberg. It is response to market demand.
Change the question, change the offer.

As for the furniture for children and young people were presented a lot of fun pieces, beautifully designed, but also made of plastic. It is as if there were an essential combination:
Kids/Teens = plastic
from which, with difficulty, designers are able to depart.

We talk about eco-friendly plastic materials but this does not mean they do not pollute the environment. Suffice it to say that the process of recycling is carried out industrially with lots of smoke emissions, energy consumption, etc..
But, as in all things, is important to succeed in determining all the elements limiting the number of objects/furniture in plastic. A few pieces but significant.

Very interesting were outside the Salone, around the center of Milan, Brera, Tortona and  Montenapoleone areas. Personally I find most exciting for the direct relationship between objects and the city.
